Market Leader

Position Summary and Mission

Responsible for 4-8 restaurants in a defined region. The Market Leader is responsible for increasing sales and profits through financial management and leadership practice. He/she provides leadership, direction and support to the General Managers with the overall goal of ensuring the effective operation and success of company restaurants.

Summary of Key Responsibilities

Sales and Profits
  • Coaches General Managers to develop and implement creative and targeted sales-building strategies for assigned company restaurants to ensure optimal sales and earnings.
  • Coaches management team to develop and execute the local store marketing plan to build relationships with civic, business, school, and professional organizations to drive sales and guest counts
  • Maximizes profits by coaching General Managers on controlling expenses within established budget guidelines and thru using productivity & efficiency tools for food and labor costs.
  • Assists in the annual preparation of sales projections, expense budgets, and capital expenditure budgets.
  • Working thru restaurant management teams, he/she is accountable for all controllable financial results on a period basis according to plan.

Operations and Quality Standards
  • Ensure all restaurants meet or exceed City Barbeque operations and quality standards.
  • Performs visitations of each restaurant on a regular basis to ensure each restaurant management staff understands strengths and developmental opportunities as they relate to operations and quality standards
  • Ensures professional restaurant and team image through adherence to restaurant cleanliness and staff appearance standards.
  • Ensures all equipment and facilities are in compliance with Brand Standards and all government regulations and takes corrective action when required
  • Follows and ensures compliance with all brand standards, company policies and procedures.
  • Coaches management teams on how to utilize Voice of Guest feedback to improve service execution
  • Ensures joint management teams respond immediately to all Mindshare callbacks and Corporate Feedback comments, resolve appropriately and closes out in system.

Recruiting and Retention
  • Responsible for management staffing, training, retention and turnover.
  • Forecasts management staffing needs with HR, creating and maintaining plans for developing internal candidates for promotion or fulfilling externally.
  • Ensures selection process for all positions utilize behavioral assessment info, Get Smokey interviews reference and background checks prior to onboarding.
  • Utilizes exit interview process with all management that leave the company.

People Development
  • Ensures development of managerial and leadership abilities in restaurant management staff thru City Map.
  • Reinforces Core Values consistently.
  • Conducts meetings with restaurant management team on a regular basis.
  • Conducts performance development review on General Manager and ensures same is done on restaurant management and hourly team.
  • Provides coaching and feedback on an on-going basis.
  • Develops employees through corporate training programs, individual development plans and assignments; provides coaching and constructive feedback to employees as needed

Employee Relations
  • Accurately and consistently documents performance issues appropriately, confronts manager regarding and reports to HR in a timely order
  • Uses consistent practices in managing performance problems.
  • Conducts investigations as required for cash, harassment or any unfair employment practices.
  • Coaches management teams to understand pulse of teams using Employee Survey process and react appropriately to improve position as a premiere employer in the marketplace.

Policies and Procedures
  • Ensures compliance on procedures outlined in the Operations Manual and other company reference manuals.
  • Ensures compliance on company cash control, and safety and security policy.
  • Ensures accidents and incidents are reported to Risk Management in a timely manner.
  • Monitors procedures for resolving Health Department violations promptly.
  • Monitors compliance with all Equal Employment Opportunity and labor laws (state/federal). Monitors that proper security procedures are in place to protect employees, guests and company assets

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • For external candidates, minimum of 5 years of experience in a multi-unit supervision role in the restaurant industry.
  • For internal candidates, minimum 3 years of City Barbeque GM experience (6 years total GM experience) with a track record of best in market results and peer consideration as a leader in the respective market.
